Race Logistics & Details

Greetings from the San Juan Trail Tri Team,

Race day is Saturday 6/15/24, 8:30 am! We want to pass along logistics information to make race day more smooth and more fun. This is our first go at this race, so please be flexible and be courteous to volunteers, each other, State Park staff and State Troopers.  Lets all enjoy the scenery and make this a success. Map for staging/parking is below. 

Packet pick up will be held in the Dallas Creek Day Use parking lot on Friday 6/14, 5:30-6:30pm. You will not need to pay a State Park entry if you are just coming in and out, let the ranger know. We will pass out shirts and ankle chips at that time. You will be responsible to keep track of your anklet for the evening, please do not lose it. The timing company will have extras, but if you lose yours prior to the event, you may be charged a fee. We will also be able to check in and issue anklets starting at 7am on race day. We will be available to start staging SUPS and bikes at 7am on race day. Race starts at 8:30. 

Parking on the day of the event will be spread throughout the Dallas Creek Area. Follow volunteer or staff directions. We will park in main lot first, then along the road to the right of the entrance, and use parking to the West as needed. Your State Park day fee has been included in race sign up. 

Montrose Surf and Cycle will have a number of pumps available to help get SUPs aired up. They will also assist with any last minute bike issues as able. 

You are responsible to have your own SUP, PFD, bike, helmet, drink for bike ride. We will likely have a few spare helmets/PFDs, but these will be limited, so please bring your own. 

Key Course logistics:

The running and bike courses will be marked with colored irrigation flags and some arrows. We will have plenty of volunteers to assist with equipment management, but we are not responsible for lost or damaged gear.

Timing mats will be marked and obvious for run to paddle and paddle to bike transitions. 

Water and electrolyte drink will be available at the transition area. Participants are responsible to bring their own hydration on the bike course.

The run will be mass start, line up generally according to your speed. There is plenty of road to settle in to a good pace before you hit trail. 

Paddle boards will be staged on the shore line prior to race. We will have numbered zones to help you find your board. Please label your board. We will have volunteers on shore to assist, and they will also let air out as needed if it gets hot. You are welcome to have friends/family retrieve your board from you after you finish and the paddle corse is clear. 

The bikes will be racked in the transition area in the parking lot. Bikers will exit the State Park onto the highway and ride on the State Park side of the highway shoulder to a crossing point where State Troopers with flashing lights and volunteers will assist with safe crossing of highway 550. Please be patient and follow instructions for safe crossing. You will cross at the same place on the return. Participants need to make safety over speed a priority in this short section. 

The bike section takes place on the Ridgway Area Trails (RAT) BLM property. Help us keep the trails in great shape by staying on the trails and not leaving trash. Trails are open to the public so use proper etiquette, which is yield to uphill riders and ask to pass. There will be volunteers on the bike course to assist with navigation and assist in the event of an injury or mechanical issue. The bike course includes a section of rough and steep dirt road that will have 2 way traffic. Downhill riders, please yield/move for those riding up this tough section. In the unlikely event of heavy rain and mud, we reserve the right to modify the bike course to a gravel road ride on County Rd 1. 

Timing results will be updated live throughout the day. We will announce top 3 male and female individual finishers and our top teams. We will have awards for top male and female as well as top team. This should be at approximately 12:30 pm, but this will depend on having a clear course. Bring chairs and plan to enjoy the beach area following your finish.

Tri Tag - Ankle Tracker

Please do not cover the ankle with a wet suit and have the tag positioned on the outside.  Relay members will need to remove and pass along to their teammates.  Lost tags will have  $50 replacement fee.
